It’s important to know that, here at Abbeyfield Pilcher’s Field, we offer you a unique retirement: A wonderful alternative when you might be struggling to live on your own.
It’s often a difficult time for you, and your family, when considering the best accommodation options in older years. Sometimes the decision has to be taken against a backdrop of challenging circumstances: post bereavement, poor health, loneliness, or simple realization that living on your own is becoming too onerous. These are all common triggers that may lead you to feel you need more day to day support: or that you simply wish for better opportunities to build friendships and maintain an active social life.
When you rent or buy an apartment here we offer the perfect blend of independence, support, privacy and companionship.
We are a registered provider of social housing as well as being a housing charity. As a resident you will live in your own self- contained apartment, you’ll enjoy home cooked meals, the freedom to come and go, time to spend with new friends or privacy when you want it. Life becomes pretty stress free. No more trying to maintain a home and garden, no more administration and bills to sort out. There is no commitment to buy, thanks to a monthly all- inclusive affordable support fee which includes all expenditure, heating, lighting, maintenance, cleaning, food etc., all except your telephone bill. And of course a helping hand is always around.
An Abbeyfield Home has been in Crapstone, Yelverton, in the parish of Buckland Monachorum for over 50 years.
The first Abbeyfield Home in the parish was situated in the main street in 1974, the current home was purpose built in 1992 and re-developed and extended in 2015. The home provides 6 studio-style apartments and 4 larger flats of which 3 are designed as double person apartments. The property also benefits from a communal lounge and dining area, laundry facilities, lift, gardens and vehicle parking. We also have a guest room available which may be used for a small charge for visitors wishing to stay for a short time with relatives or friends of residents.
Regular social activities include coffee mornings and day trips. Two home-cooked meals are provided every day.
The House is easy to get to, has level access and is in a desirable location. There is scheduled public transport seven buses daily (other than Sunday) that link the village with Yelverton, one mile away, where bus connections to Plymouth & Tavistock run frequently. We do have a good community ring-and-ride service. Buses also run direct to and from Tavistock.
